7 Most Beautiful Wedding Dresses Worn By TV Characters

Weddings on tv are fairly rare, especially for the main characters (or, in the case of House, former main characters). I guess the writers don’t want to commit to two characters together forever, but there have been quite a few weddings (and, more importantly, wedding dresses) popping up on the small screen this season. I’ve already talked about the wedding dress on the season finale of The Closer, but here are some others from the past couple of weeks.

On the 100th episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) wedding was gifted to Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and Alex (Justin Chambers), which is a good thing, given that Meredith isn’t really the big wedding type. Besides the ornate, princess dress by Kenneth Pool that Izzie had chosen for Meredith didn’t look good on her at all. It gave her body an unflatteringly awkward shape.

Now, when we learned that Izzie was going to wear the dress, I had to suspend my disbelief because there is no way she would fit into a dress that was fitted for Meredith. Seeing these pictures, though, it’s obvious that the dress had probably already been altered for Katherine Heigl’s more curvaceous body because it looks a million times better on her.

It’s not shocking that the costume designers chose to go with a Kenneth Pool dress since Christina (Sandra Oh) wore a surprisingly similar one (also by Kenneth Pool) for her aborted wedding to Burke (Isaiah Washington) a couple of seasons ago. And Amsale (who is the Creative Director of Kenneth Pool) also created the gorgeous prom dress Izzie wore in season 2 (and that we saw again on this season’s finale).

Meredith and Derek didn’t have their big, traditional wedding, but, on the season finale, they did have their Post-it “wedding.” (I don’t know if I’d really consider it a wedding, it was more like a handfasting.)

I didn’t pay much attention to Meredith’s attire, but my sister insists that the fact that she’s wearing a white lab coat was completely intended to be bridal-like (even though she almost always wears once being that she’s a doctor in a hospital, I’ll give my sister the benefit of the doubt). And since he’s not in a lab coat, he looks the part of the groom. Given that he isn’t wearing white (which he usually does because he’s also a doctor in a hospital), makes the fact that she’s in white more obvious (although not to me). She also did have her something old, new, borrowed and blue that Christina had given her earlier (as evidenced by the Post-it note pad they wrote their vows on).

Then on the season finale of House, Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) and Chase (Jesse Spencer) finally got married, after settling the issue of Cameron’s dead husband’s frozen sperm. Considering that Morrison and Spencer were engaged in real life and called off their engagement prior to their wedding, it must have been bizarre to get married, even if they were only pretending.

The dress Cameron wore is supposedly (from what I could find) a Le Spose di Gio gown and it suits Jennifer Morrison perfectly.

And the wedding photos of the couple are stunning (especially since they’re for a fake wedding album). It’s weird that there are so many pictures for characters who have pretty much been relegated to cameos (as my husbands says). You can check out more pictures, including the cake cutting, here and here.

Last week also saw the Ugly Betty wedding of Daniel (Eric Mabius) and Molly (Sarah Lafleur), who were married at the planetarium by a model dressed as an alien, who was also an ordained minister (how convenient).

But forget about the (strange) ceremony, this is about the dress. Molly wore a Reem Acra creation. I’m not a fan of the bow at the bust or the jeweled one on the waist, but I like the sleekness of the silhouette.

And, finally, Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) married (remarried?) her reincarnated husband on the season finale of Ghost Whisperer. At the beginning of the episode, she is seen trying on her wedding dress—a beautiful gown with a pale blue sash around the waist and blue floral details on the bodice.

After Melinda’s mother sicced the wedding planner from hell (at least in Jim and Melinda’s opinions…hey, orchestras, horse drawn carriages and giant ice sculptures aren’t for everyone) on the couple, they opt to elope and get married on the street where they first met. Unfortunately, Melinda doesn’t have time to change into her wedding dress. Luck is on her side, though. She just happens to be wearing a Reverie by Melissa Sweet dress. (Come on! Don’t most people wear a wedding dress to their bridal/baby shower?) Regardless, it is a beautiful dress and, good thing, because it winds up being her actual wedding dress.

So, of all these wedding gowns, which one is your favorite?
