More Details on the Lace of Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress

The same designers who made Grace Kelly’s iconic lacey wedding dress also contributed to making Kate Middleton’s much-envied wedding gown. Solstiss, a French lace making company, were contacted just 15 days before the wedding to produce 25 meters of lace for Kate’s wedding dress. The company had to keep their involvement a secret until the day of the ceremony. It wasn’t until the morning of the ceremony that Alexander McQueen’s production manager confirmed that Kate’s dress was made with 2,000 lace patterns appliqued on lace and tulle.
“As for every Haute Couture or Ready to Wear show it is a last minute surprise,” says Christopher Machu, President of Solstiss. “You never know in advance. This is the magic of our business”
We’re not surprised the lace was made by Solstiss. After all, french lace is always very chic!
