The Fun Secrets of Wedding Dress Designer Hayley Paige
Here at Wedding Dresses we can’t wait to see the new Fall 2012 collection from Hayley Paige this upcoming bridal market. While she was busy sewing wonderful new wedding dresses in her wedding dress design studio, she took the time to answer some obligatory wedding dress designer questions, like, “What inspired her to be a designer?”, but also, her secrets to having fun and living life! Hayley also said she was team #zack. Which team were you?
Q&A with Wedding Dress Designer Hayley Paige
Where are you from?
Sunshine state! Los Gatos, California.
What is your personal style?
Eclectic and shoe needy. I typically gravitate toward playful juxtapositions in clothing, like leather and lace or Swiss dot and floral print, but my shoes are the deciding factor as to whether I am going for sassy or sweet.
Who was your professional mentor?
My dad. He is a doctor, and his work ethic and compassion for others transcends the most wonderful of people.
Where did you learn design?
I’ve always loved the quote from Einstein “If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales.” I grew up idolizing Disney Princesses who chased their dreams and a Grandmother that taught me how to sew and bake. Design was a natural and inevitable practice.
First Design Disaster?
As with many creativity-based professions, there are growing pains and maturing of your craft. It’s always amusing to look back at my early projects while studying design at Cornell University; there were many concepts that raise some asymmetric eyebrows. But, I don’t regret anything, because at the time, it was exactly what I wanted to create.
Can you briefly describe your design process that leads to a complete collection?
Every dress has a different story and part of the process is recognizing when something is marvelous. Some dresses take longer to sparkle and need TLC time in the “ICU”, others are literally dreamt up and executed beautifully right from the start. It’s all part of the imaginative process and having the audacity to allow evolution at any stage.
What are the Worst Common Mistakes Brides Makes when they Choose a Wedding Dress?
Being too heavily persuaded by other people’s opinions while choosing the dress. My suggestion is to keep your entourage small and your expectations big.
Top 2 Favorite Wedding Scenes in a Movie that Always Makes You Cry?
I would have to say Father of the Bride…and I also cried in the old school 90210 episode when Kelly Taylor didn’t marry Brandon Walsh.
